TARC Mianwali
Introduction
Ali Institute of Education in collaboration with UNICEF established this TARC in September, 2004.This is also a part of Child Friendly School Project. At the moment, this TARC is interacting as a cluster support unit for 50 identified Government Primary Schools in Tehsil Mustafabad. The TARC is progressively working on the CFS Concept and has been a centre of quality In-Service Education and Trainings.
Activities Performed by TARC in CFS
  • Data Collection of the Schools
  • Designing Training Modules for the Head Teachers and Teachers of the identified schools
  • Training the Head Teachers and Teachers at TARC
  • Training the Education Department personnel including Assistant Education Officers(AEO’S), District Teacher Educators (DTE’s)
  • Executing Mentoring and monitoring activities in each school for the holistic school improvement and development
  • Community Mobilization and strengthening the involvement of parents in school governance through functioning school councils.
  • Strethgening the School Improvement Programme(SIP) that includes the following activities:

Activities Purpose Output
Establishing Resource Corners Resource Corners are established with a collaborative effort of TARC team, parents, students and teachers. Students and their Parents provided junk material to the teachers for the establishment of resource corners which are used by the teachers in activity based teaching 35 Resource Corners have been developed in 25 CFS
Library Corners To encourage enjoyment of reading and the development of reference skills, libraries and library corners are established in Child Friendly schools. In 23 schools library corners and in 1 schools libraries have been established with an average of 75 books provided by UNICEF, Government and arranged by the schools themselves. A separate library period is allocated for extra reading material in Child friendly Schools.
Parents Teachers Meeting The parent’s role is essential in the learning of students. Involvement of parents is ensured by the continuous efforts of TARC team and has took a boost through social coordinator’s activities. Parent teacher meetings take place three times a year. Parents also visit the school whenever they need or teachers call them.
School Council Meeting Operational planning of the school is the collaborative effort of the school staff and SC members. The school Council is activated and strengthened in 25 schools. SC meetings take place five times in a year in every school.
Health Education To develop the students’ understanding about health and hygiene SPDTs/PDTS conducted health education sessions on basic hygiene in all the 25 schools to the teachers and students. Students and teachers developed posters and displays on health education. Health education is being provided in school assembly or during the class to the students by the teachers. Health screening activity was also conducted in collaboration with Health Education Department and UNICEF in all 25 schools.
Sports and Debates Competitions These competitions were held for the development of wholesome attitudes towards physical fitness, managing stress, social skills, discipline, sportsmanship, confidence and respect for the rights of others in the students Intra and inter sports and debates competitions have been held in 18 and 9 Child Friendly Schools respectively.
Quiz Competitions To sharpen students’ cognitive abilities. Intra quiz competition have been held in 15 Child Friendly Schools
Holding of School Assemblies For creating better organization and discipline skills, the school assembly is being arranged in each school. All the schools are holding school assemblies regularly, in time, every day. Talawat, Naat with translation, poems, health education, moral lesson, Riddles ,skits, national anthem are the features of the morning assemblies.
Holding of Bazm-e- Adab In order to build confidence among the students through literary activities. All Child Friendly Schools conduct Bazm-e- Adab on weekly basis in which students of all the classes participate in different items like naat, drama, story telling, telling jokes, sharing of information
Students’ Committees To make students responsible and develop their management and leadership skills and proliferate the participation level of students in school management and development. Five different students’ committees (plantation, assembly, cleanliness, discipline, library) were strengthened in all 25 schools
Hand Writing Competition To improve the hand writing of students English and Urdu handwriting competitions were held in 6 Child Friendly Schools.
Poetry Competitions To enhance students’ creativity Intra school Poetry competition are held in 2 and 3 Child Friendly Schools respectively.
